VIMA — a new favourite on Mallorca

This is a genuinely local, family-run company with roots going back to 1963, when four friends started a small rental operation in the south of Mallorca with just two Seat 600s. Today, VIMA operates across the island with pick-up points atPalma Airport, Colonia de Sant Jordi, Ses Salines, Portopetro, Cala Llombards, and more.

Worth knowing: Parking G has limited covered spaces — most of the car park is open-air, which is the one downside if it’s raining on arrival. Don’t expect much in the way of facilities either: a few benches and a vending machine is about it.

Good to drive, comfortable, and reasonably fuel-efficient — though if you’re used to a more powerful engine, don’t expect fireworks. A notable plus is the infotainment system with Google Maps built in. Whether that’s standard across the fleet we can’t say for certain, but Apple CarPlay is available as an add-on at the time of booking.

Now for that envelope: wind down the window just enough to fit the envelope through, lock the car, place the key and parking ticket inside the envelope you were given at pick-up, and drop it into the car. And yes — check you haven’t left anything behind before you do. Then head straight to the check-in hall.

A couple of fair questions do spring to mind: what happens if someone damages the car while it’s sitting there? Or if it gets stolen (small chance, but still…)? We were in a rush to catch our flight and didn’t dwell on it — we took a photo of the car, the parking ticket confirmed the return time, and it all felt fine. If you have concerns, VIMA staff are on site between 08:00 and 21:30. Btw, returns outside those hours are possible but carry an additional charge.

Tip! Read the booking confirmation email carefully — it includes instructions on how to find the Meeting Point, useful both on arrival and when returning the car. We’ve come across reviews from customers who had trouble locating it. They had most likely not opened the attachments.

However, this happened 10 years ago. As competition in the car rental industry increases, especially in Mallorca, I assume the focus on customers improves as well. Goldcar must have taken some steps in the right direction?

Therefore, after several searches at different times for a car rental in December 2025, the choice ended up being Goldcar. This was due to the almost unbelievable price of €14.37 for one week! Premium Location Fee and Environmental Contribution included. Sure, it’s low season, but this is still a price that is very hard to beat. For comparison, Hertz charged €95 and Record Go €75 for the same period.

A lot has also changed at Palma Airport over the past 10 years. Car rental companies now have larger offices in the arrivals hall after baggage claim. The area feels more spacious, with access to food outlets, seating, and the option to step outside while waiting for your turn. Goldcar’s office is no exception. It took barely 10 minutes to complete the contract, and the attempt to upsell full insurance felt more like information than pressure. Similar to Record Go, you then head to the parking garage opposite the terminal to collect the keys and the car.

Judging by the large number of visible scratches and marks, it was clear that this car had been through a lot. Renting it without full insurance meant that all existing damage had to be documented to avoid extra charges at return. To my great relief, the staff explained that they assess damage by zones. For example, if you return the car with a scratch in an area that already has damage, it is disregarded.

Despite the slightly annoying green color, the website feels clean, well thought out, and easy to navigate. All information is clearly presented without unnecessary advertising. Even the Terms and Conditions page (unlike many other car rental companies) is well structured and easy to read. In short, booking the car was very straightforward.

As mentioned earlier, the price was the deciding factor this time. Goldcar often ranks high on low-price lists on various comparison websites, especially during the low season. In fact, renting a car for a week in January can cost as little as €1.35 per day. You can easily understand where the name “Crazy Full/Full Rate” comes from 🙂 Overall, Goldcar offers prices that are very competitive. However, it’s important to note that these prices apply to bookings without full insurance (Full Cover / zero excess).

When booking with Goldcar, you have three different options:

• Crazy Full/Full Rate: basic insurance, no cancellation, deposit of at least €1,100
• Full/Full Rate: basic insurance, free cancellation, deposit of at least €1,100
• Key’n Go Pack: full insurance, free cancellation, no deposit, time-saving (contract prepared and keys ready)
  

Centauro is located in the Son Oms industrial area, just outside the airport, where you can also find Wiber and ClickRent. In other words, you can count on a 5-10 minute bus transfer to pick up the car. It’s not an office, but rather a barracks, but as long as the waiting time is reasonable, it doesn’t matter much. In our case it took less than 10 minutes to get the keys.

Then follows the classic round around the car in search of possible defects that are not registered in the contract. Easier said than done at 11o’clock in the evening with minimal lighting…

Centauro Rent a Car is dating back to the early 70s and started by renting out classic Seat 600s to tourists in Benidorm. Nowadays, the company is owned by a large Spanish insurance company and has several offices both in Spain and other Mediterranean countries.

Important to keep that in mind when comparing offers from other companies that have multiple price ranges. On price comparison sites such as Rentalcars or Discovercars you will find cars with half insurance, hence the lower prices. So, if you want to book your car with Centauro but skip the comprehensive insurance, Rentalcars is a good alternative.

The car park feels somewhat limited, the focus seems to be on smaller car models, family cars and light trucks. Assumes that the customers who like to book premium cars look to the competitors.

At the beginning of May 2023, Centauro had one of the lowest prices I could find for cars in the economy class (CE). With a quick search on Rentalcars.com I got an even better hit.

The price of a two-week rental from May 27 ended up at €260, or under €19/day. This with basic insurance and a deposit fee of €1,200. As you know, prices vary a lot between car rental companies, so it pays to both search at different times but also change details in the search itself, e.g. the time for pick-up or return.

Impossible to complain about anything regarding our car. A comfortable, relatively fuel-efficient Seat Ateca with fine driving characteristics was a hit. And so clean and fresh, just as it should be. But maybe the first press on the key then was “Hola!” lit up the place around the car which brought a smile and made us like the car. You had me at Hello! 🙂

Don’t know if the upgrade was the agent’s decision (Alvaro was very nice and helpful) or the result of a shortage of the Fiat 500 we wanted, but we were definitely satisfied.

The car is returned with a full tank of fuel at the same place (the Repsol gas station is right next to the Centauro car park). With two vehicles in front of us, it took under 10 minutes to return our vehicle after a brief inspection. However, I can imagine how it feels to wait in the blazing sun when several cars arrive at the same time, there is no shade in the parking lot.

The prices, the website and flexible solutions such as SmartKey with which you unlock the car with your mobile phone and FastKey if you want to skip the line and pick up the keys in a key cabinet.

I must mention the good service, both on site and by phone when we announced that the flight was delayed 1.5 hours and expected an arrival time when the office closed. We were assured that someone was there to take care of us.

Another thing we appreciated, after the transfer back to the airport we were dropped off outside the check-in terminal and not in the parking lot, as other car rental companies with bus transfers do.
It remains to be seen if the experience is as positive on the next occasion.

What could be better?
Another price category without comprehensive insurance would be desirable, a good option for those who have third-party insurance or simply do not want to pay for it.

My pulse goes on a rollercoaster as we rush from baggage claim to Record go’s office at the airport. We land in Mallorca after a two-hour delay, and the arrivals hall is packed with people.

There’s a long queue at the rental car desks, something I was really hoping to avoid. But to my great relief, I soon realize that Record go uses the same “do-it-yourself” system the airlines introduced years ago.

Provided you have chosen full insurance in connection with the booking, it is fine to use the “Just Go Box” machines and skip the queue. When the registration is complete, which only takes a few minutes, all that remains is to retrieve the car key from the parking garage.

As usual, you book a car based on class, which means that the vehicle waiting in the parking lot is not always of the same model that the website shows at the time of booking. Unless you choose a Premium car, then the model is always guaranteed (e.g. the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia, Lexus and Ford Mustang Mach-E).

To avoid scrolling down through the search results or selecting a certain type of vehicle, you can click on the icons at the top, which is easy to miss (the only “negative” detail about the website, by the way).

The reservation is made with a few clicks and as soon as it is ready, a message lands in your inbox with all the details. I think that “Thank you! Your booking with Record go has been confirmed. The Booking No…” email could serve as a template for other car rental companies that have not understood the importance of being clear in their communication with customers. A summary of everything you need to know, comprehensibly formulated and easily overviewed. Also included is a QR code to be used in the Just Go Box machines if you want to skip a possible queue. For those who are not familiar with Palma airport “Collect and leave info” the brochure as an attached file will come in handy.

Furthermore, the terms of use (General Terms and Conditions) are also unusually clear and easy to read.

The conditions are not significantly different from other car rental companies, unlimited mileage, the car must be returned with a full tank (alt. a fee of €35 is added), free cancellation up to 24 hours before pick-up, deposit fee from €900 for “Go Easy” bookings.

There are two types of insurance:
– Go Easy with excess and deposit from €1100
– Total Comfort Coverage, no excess and protection in the event of a collision, theft and the most common negligence

One thing that I like is the 10% discount you get when you become a member of the Record go club. It is added to any already discounted offer. The advantages of becoming a member are few but useful, a good overview of made and upcoming bookings and, if you choose, newsletters via email with information about various campaigns.

The car is picked up and returned at the airport. The car park is on the first floor of the building opposite the terminal, it is well signposted and the risk of going wrong is small. Record go has chosen a different solution than its colleagues when it comes to key management. These are picked up at the office which is right next to the car park, then you have to go on a journey of discovery to find the vehicle. Expect tight parking spaces!

Returning the car was a short and smooth procedure for us, as it was fully fuelled, with no visible (or invisible, for that matter) blemishes and after a normal mileage there was nothing to complain about from the staff. Still have to admit, without full insurance, one always expects a more thorough review and a possible discussion about small damages that have appeared all of a sudden…

Compared to its industry colleagues / competitors, Record go stands out perhaps primarily through its prices. It is sometimes possible to find cars in the MBMR category (e.g. Fiat 500) for €22/day during high season. During low season when the demand drops, the same car can cost from 10€/day.

So how does Record go stack up in terms of price compared to the competition? In fact, the price I found for a 6 day rental in August 2022 was among the absolute lowest. A car in the MBMR class (in this case it was an Opel Corsa) including full insurance ended up at €164 or €27/day. A good price considering it was high season and there was a shortage of vehicles at many car rental companies. In addition, the reservation was made 1 week before arrival!

Even on the next rental occasion in April 2023, the price was roughly the same, €227 for 8 days’ car rental, or about €28/day, but only with basic insurance and a deposit of €1,100. This time an “upgrade” awaited, the Italian-Chinese creation DR, an unusually boring car that I wouldn’t want to drive again.

In summary, I found Record go to be slightly better than several competitors on a few points:

– Not the cheapest but often low prices ✅
– User-friendly website (on par with Wiber’s) ✅
– Smooth registration via the Just Go Box machines ✅
– Good information via email and clear terms of use ✅
Cons:
– Long queues at the check-in counter

OK Mobility – a similarly priced alternative to RecordGo for those who want to pick up their car at the airport. If taking a shuttle bus isn’t a problem, take a look at Centauro.

A quick search on Rentalcars.com and Discovercars.com showed similar prices, with rates starting around €25–€26 per day for a Fiat 500 in October. OK Mobility was about 15 % more expensive than the cheapest competitors, which I found to be an acceptable difference — and the price on the company’s own website was similar — so I booked a car for seven days at €204

The name OK Mobility comes from the initials of its founder and CEO, Othman Ktiris, who started Logic Auto in 2004. Over the years it grew into what is now OK Mobility, with offices in many Spanish cities, Europe, and even Miami. The Mallorca location opened around 2010–2011.

At Palma de Mallorca Airport, OK Mobility and several other rental companies are located on the far left of the arrivals hall after customs. This is actually a smart setup by the airport operator AENA — plenty of space, easy access to cafés and shops, and the chance to breathe some fresh air while waiting for your shuttle.

One thing many travelers find annoying is the push for extra insurance — especially if you already have coverage the company doesn’t accept. The constant reminders about potential costs if something goes wrong create uncertainty and can lead to unexpected charges.

I personally declined the extra insurance and was slightly surprised when the agent didn’t push it hard. But then came the upgrade dilemma: the small Fiat 500 I booked wasn’t available. Instead, they offered a DS 7 Crossback!

Unlike some competitors (like RecordGo), you don’t have to walk to another office to pick up your keys. With OK Mobility, you get the keys straight away when the contract is signed, and the car park is conveniently located across from the terminal on the second floor.

One downside is how the terms and conditions are displayed. Like many “low-cost” companies, OK Mobility packs key contract info into text formatted in a way that makes it easy for customers to skim past. It’s not the first thing you want to read when booking a car — but it should be easy to access and understand.

However, a feature I do like is the OK Club loyalty program launched in 2020. You earn points for each euro spent, and these can be used to pay for future rentals or exchanged for gifts, attraction tickets, or online shopping discounts.

OK Mobility has a varied and growing fleet, from scooters and small cars to luxury vehicles, electric models, and vans — truly something for everyone.

As you probably know, low base prices don’t guarantee peace of mind — you must return the car in the same condition as when you picked it up, with no scratches or dents. This makes documenting all visible flaws extremely important, which is sometimes more difficult than it sounds, especially in a dark parking garage or rainy conditions.

In my case, good lighting made it easy to film and photograph the car’s existing small flaws. Interestingly, cars are returned in a part of the lot with better lighting but picked up in a slightly darker area — just something to be aware of.

Returning the car was painless. I was prepared with all documentation — tank receipt, proof of no new damage — and the process took only a few minutes.

After returning the car, I waited to see if any charges would appear on my credit card. After 60 days, nothing has shown up yet. I would have liked a simple email confirmation saying something like, “Thanks for renting from us — everything is fine, deposit released.” But instead, all I got was a request for feedback.

My overall experience was better than expected, given the negative reviews I read before booking. Still, it’s easy to understand why other customers have been dissatisfied — especially when it comes to extra costs and the need to prove there’s no damage to the car.

In my opinion, this issue isn’t unique to OK Mobility — it’s a challenge across the rental industry, not just one company. The key takeaway? Document everything carefully and be prepared to show what condition the car was in when you picked it up.

Overall score: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3.5 / 5)

Compared to other Mallorca rental companies:
OK Mobility sits above budget low-cost providers in terms of fleet quality and location, but below premium brands when it comes to transparency and peace of mind.

Website and the booking process

After a couple of quick searches on two comparison sites (DiscoverCars.com and Rentalcars.com), I ended up choosing ClickRent. €37.50 per day for a Fiat Cinquecento during high season felt like an acceptable price.

In a previous post, I wrote about the business competitor Wiber, whose goal of offering a better customer experience — partly through modern technology — is already visible on their website.

In the case of ClickRent, the low-cost feeling runs through the entire site and clearly shows that the company has chosen a different business model: attracting customers with low prices. You have to put up with the pink colour scheme, questionable design accuracy, and a strong focus on “adding extras before checkout”.

As is my habit when dealing with new companies, I checked what previous customers had to say. ClickRent’s Trustpilot rating of 2.5 out of 5 did not inspire much confidence. Many customers reported dissatisfaction with extra charges, disputed damage claims upon return, and the attitude of the staff. While the numbers alone are not decisive, customer reviews are a clear indication that expectations were often not met.

So I book Cinquecento for two days, “tarifa basic”, without extra insurance, just to take a chance.

The Clickrent Office

ClickRent is a Spanish company founded in 2011 and now operates 13 offices across mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. The largest office in Mallorca is located in Polígono Son Oms, just outside the airport. It’s a convenient location with quick access to the MA-19 towards S’Arenal and Llucmajor, as well as the MA-15 towards Manacor, Son Servera, Cala Ratjada, and more. Free shuttle buses run regularly, and the transfer takes no more than 5–10 minutes.

During my visit (Saturday at noon, supposedly peak time), all counters were staffed and the waiting time was just over 10 minutes. Anyone who bothered to look up at the TV screens behind the counters could read useful information, such as which documents to have ready. Not many seemed to do so…

The car

Now the conditions were completely different. With full insurance, no one will react to an extra scratch, dent, or whatever else might happen. So, it won’t be a challenge anymore…

The moment I saw the car, I understood the frustration of some customers who had reviewed ClickRent on Trustpilot. A quick walk around revealed around 15 scratches, dents, and paint marks on all sides of the vehicle. How do you even document all that without missing something? Not easy.

It’s also a mystery how a car can accumulate so many flaws in just under three years — although, to be fair, this is Mallorca. I felt relieved that I didn’t have to document all the damage, but it does make you wonder why none of it is repaired, given the amount of money the company must charge customers. Perhaps a topic for another post.

Since the car must be returned fully refuelled to avoid additional charges, the nearby Repsol gas station makes things easy. The staff will refuel the car for you, and you pay at the cashier.

Despite my own mistake, the overall experience turned out okay. ClickRent is a company built around low prices — and they are relatively low if you book a basic car and are willing to take the risk of skipping full insurance. Otherwise, ClickRent doesn’t really stand out, except perhaps for its rather uninspiring website.

More insights about the company on Trustpilot

Wiber focuses on modern booking systems, competitive prices, and a transparent rental process. Still, like most car rental companies in Mallorca, the experience can vary depending on season, timing, and insurance choice.

The Wiber’s office is located in Poligono Son Oms, a 5-10 minute drive from the airport. Own shuttle buses pick up and drop off customers regularly. The waiting time seems to be short, on average about 5 minutes, based on my visits. A positive detail, in terms of location, is the proximity to the connection to the MA-15 and MA-19 highways for anyone going to Manacor, Artá, Calla Millor, Porto Cristo, etc or Llucmajor, Santanyi, Calad’Or, etc. All vehicles are picked up and returned here.

– Smart Car is the perfect choice for customers who value flexibility on all levels, pick-up, insurance, etc. The car is picked up and left at the airport. With the help of the mobile phone, you scan a code that unlocks the car. Obviously very popular as the cars seem to be constantly sold out.

– Full/Full is the option for all price-conscious people. This also means that you have to pay a deposit of between 700-1,200 euros, a sum that is refunded when the car is returned in the same condition as when picked up.

– The All Inclusive option falls between the first two. With total insurance, you don’t have to worry about possible damage to the car and thus avoid the deposit. Online check-in makes the check-in process much smoother as the car keys are collected from a machine (Smart Box) outside the office..

Wiber offers:
– Basic insurance with excess and deposit
– All-inclusive insurance, which significantly reduces or removes the excess

Like most of their colleagues in the industry, Wiber prefer to rent out the cars fully insured. Some customers report feeling pressured to upgrade insurance at the desk, especially during high season. If you have booked a Full/Full car, you must be prepared for this. If insurance is desired, make sure you choose the Smart car or All inclusive option when making the reservation.

Contacting Wiber by phone leaves a little to be desired. Regardless of the language chosen on the phone or the matter you have, you can count on several calls to get there. As a rule, after a short waiting time you are asked to try later and the call is disconnected… Out of my roughly 20 calls to the Mallorca office, only two were answered immediately.

However, I must admit that the help I have received from the agents over the phone once I have arrived has exceeded my expectations. Both when setting up contracts, changing vehicle and general information.

So how expensive is it to rent the holiday car with Wiber? Wiber is often considered a budget-friendly car rental company in Mallorca. Prices vary of course depending on various factors, type and size of car, season, how far in advance the booking is made, etc.

As an example, the price for three cars in group C for 36 days spread over three different booking occasions in June, July and August ended up at 1634 Euro. Or about 45 euros/day. This includes full insurance. I must admit that the foresight has not always been top notch and the price could have been a little lower with better planning.

Overall, Wiber offers good value for money compared to many airport-based rental companies.
